Illegal borrowing of funds by Northern Division Council

Description

Soroti Demonstration School was allocated UGX 23 million to renovate a classroom block. However the contractor only worked on the roofing in August 2011 and did not continue with the work. Women monitors followed up with the School management and realized that 10 million shillings had been borrowed by the Council and the project was stalling. The women scheduled a series of meeting with the local leaders including the CAO of Soroti. Due to pressure form the monitors the District leaders intervened and the council refunded the money. Work commenced on 19th November 2012.
